Parents,

Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day! The kids enjoyed their Valentine’s exchange and all their treats! We just wanted to inform you about a new classroom procedure. The kids may have told you, we’ve implemented a new behavioral system using a stoplight. Here’s how it works. There now is a stoplight chart in the front of the room. It has the green light on top and red on the bottom. The children each have a clothespin, with their name on it, that will start each day on green. Throughout the day, if they aren’t following directions, they will have to move their clip down from green to yellow or yellow to red. We will give them each a reasonable chance to earn the right to move it back to yellow or green. At the end of the day, whoever is on green will get to earn a special treat or reward. Friday will be our ‘Fun Friday’ when all the children who are on green at the end of the day will get to pick something from the ‘Treasure Box’. If you have any ideas as to individual motivators for your child, or if you would like to use this to reward them at home, please let us know so we can work together.

We are considering creating a token system where the children can earn tokens by ending the day on the green light. They would then tally them up on Friday and receive a reward and/or treat based on how many they have earned throughout the week.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We really hope this will be a positive addition to our classroom procedures!

***ALSO, we will be talking about community helpers for the next two weeks. Please bring in a stamp for your child this week, so that they can send a letter to your house on Friday. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Your Turtle Teachers!
